To refer to Washington as a bordello is an insult to prostitutes around the world. At least a legitimate prostitute ensures that her (or his) customer gets what they paid for. Not so in Washington. What is going on in the White House and the Congress and the Supreme Court is closer to rape.
So, I want to encourage you to read a great excerpt from a new book by former Senator Gary Hart. Worth your time.
He starts off:
Four qualities have distinguished republican government from ancient Athens forward: the sovereignty of the people; a sense of the common good; government dedicated to the commonwealth; and resistance to corruption. Measured against the standards established for republics from ancient times, the American Republic is massively corrupt.
From Plato and Aristotle forward, corruption was meant to describe actions and decisions that put a narrow, special, or personal interest ahead of the interest of the public or commonwealth. Corruption did not have to stoop to money under the table, vote buying, or even renting out the Lincoln bedroom. In the governing of a republic, corruption was self-interest placed above the interest of all—the public interest.
We have seen this self-interest this week in truck loads.
I sincerely fear for the future of the Republic. It is not just the celebration of homosexual marriage and transgenderism as something normal. It is the conscience pressure being applied to integrate forms of sexual perversion into the U.S. military. We are very good at lying to ourselves. Women are just as good as men when it comes to war fighting. At least that’s what we keep telling ourselves.
But most who make that argument have never been in war and forced to share the close confines of tents, vehicles or even aircraft. Stepping up to a piss tube on a C-141 is no big deal when it is all men. But with women present? Do we now believe that fully debasing ourselves in front of the opposite sex is cool?
We are acting as if the military and the intelligence organizations are mere jobs to give worthy folks a chance to get ahead. These jobs are nothing special nor do they require special people. At least that’s what we keep telling ourselves.
Here’s a cold, hard fact–we have not been at war against a legitimate Army since the Korean War. And we did not do well there. It ended in a stalemate with the North Koreans and the Chinese. We lost in Vietnam. We found a way to declare victory and leave, but, after the lost of 58,000 plus Americans what did we accomplish? Nothing.
We lack the toughness and discipline required to defeat a real military like the Russians or the Chinese. We delude ourselves with the fantasy that technology gives us the edge yet cannot stop a group of Chinese hackers from running off with the personal information of more than 18 million Americans. Hell, we do not even have enough Navy ships to haul Marines. We actually are entertaining using the ships of other countries. We are just jerking ourselves off. Masturbating, pretending that we’re having consensual sex with the man or woman of our dreams. Yet, when the climax comes we are all alone.
We are too stupid to show humility or wisdom. Instead, we are busy provoking a needless, juvenile conflict with Russia. Oblivious it seems to the risk of thermonuclear war. We went to the mats back in 1962 when the Soviets sent missiles to Cuba–a mere 90 miles from our shores. Today we are sending so-called “missile defense” systems to the border of Russia. All in the name of peace, of course. But such weapons systems are anything but inert, defensive, do nothing systems. When you can take out another countries missiles then you have the ability to take offensive action.
Let’s just light up the White House in Rainbow Colors and celebrate are grandiosity. We will focus on Climate Change as the greatest national security threat. We will sell out our children to corporations eager to make money off of standardized testing without doing anything to advance that actual educational level of our youth. We will convince ourselves that black lives matter, we will even make it a crusade, but will conveniently turn our eyes away from the actual massacre of blacks in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Detroit. We will pat ourselves on the back for our technological prowess while remaining utterly and totally depend on Russia for a rocket ride to resupply our astronauts on the International Space Station. In short, we will focus on meaningless symbolic gestures and repeatedly lie about our reality. We will give ourselves a participation ribbon and celebrate as if we were Bruce Jenner and had just won the Decathlon. Or is it Caitlyn?
